The Coconut Crab is a tier 10 animal. It is based on its real life counterpart, Birgus latro, the largest extant terrestrial invertebrate.
Mechanics[ | ]
- Mantis shrimps evolve into coconut crabs.
- 48,000 XP is required for a mantis shrimp to evolve into a coconut crab.
- Coconut crabs do not evolve into any other animals, as they are a top tier animal
- Coconut crabs drop meat upon death.
- As a coconut crab, friendly fire is turned off for all tier 1 animals, crabs, and Hermit crabs meaning you cannot damage them nor be damaged by them.
Abilities[ | ]
Passive Abilities[ | ]
- You slowly sink to the seabed.
- You can walk on the seabed.
- You can walk on islands, glaciers and beaver dams.
- You can climb all types of trees except for the Broken Tree. However, you cannot hide in trees.
- Is not slowed down by coral fans or table corals.
Active Abilities[ | ]
Name | Image | Charge Time | Description |
---|---|---|---|
Sink | 0.5 seconds | Charge boost to dash and inflict sink to the target, making them sink rapidly to the seabed. | |
Claw Smash | 0.5 seconds | Charge boost while walking to smash the target with your claw, dealing 175 damage, inflicting stun and making them sink to the seabed. |
Suitable Biomes[ | ]
- The suitable biome for the coconut crab is the ocean.
- If a coconut crab enters the ocean, it will lose oxygen; however it can swim and its oxygen time is long enough for this to not matter.
- If a coconut crab enters the arctic, it will lose oxygen and temperature.
- If a coconut crab enters the arctic surface, it will lose temperature.
- If a coconut crab enters the deeeep, it will lose oxygen and pressure.
- If a coconut crab enters the swamp, it will lose oxygen and salinity.
- If a coconut crab enters the swamp surface, it will not regenerate salinity.
Diet[ | ]
This is a complete list of food that coconut crabs can eat.
Name | Can be eaten by | Image | XP | Description |
---|---|---|---|---|
Barb | All except for the stonefish who spawned it | 0 | Spawns behind a stonefish using their active ability. Deals damage upon eating it (7% of max life). Poisons anyone who eats it with a base DPS of 10% that lasts 5 seconds (except poison-immune animals). Despawns after 4 seconds. | |
Bird Poop | All except for lamprey and seagull | 10 | Affected by gravity. Automatically spawns below any seagull every 10 seconds. | |
Plankton | All | 250 | Spawns in the ocean. | |
Ice | All | 250 | Spawns in the arctic and deeeep. | |
Algae | Oarfish, penguin, tier 1 to tier 6 except lamprey | 50 | Spawns on the ocean floor. | |
Yellow Algae | Oarfish, penguin, tier 1 to tier 6 except lamprey | 50 | Spawns on the floors of the arctic and deeeep. | |
Apple | Tier 1 to tier 8 except lamprey and pelican | 50 | Spawns in trees. | |
Berry | Tier 1 to tier 8 except lamprey and pelican | 50 | Spawns in bushes. | |
Volcano Food | All except lamprey | 125 | Affected by gravity, floats upwards. Spawns out of volcanoes, which can be hidden in and are located in the arctic and the deeeep. When eaten as an animal that is not suited to the arctic, it will replenish some of your temperature. | |
Meat | All | 1000 | Spawns where an animal dies (tier 2 to tier 10 animals only). The amount of meat that spawns depends on what animal it was. | |
Anglerfish Bait | All Animals except for the Anglerfish who spawned it | 0 | Spawns infront of an Anglerfish when it is stationary (as its passive ability). No fixed look, resembles the last food the Anglerfish eats. It does nothing too, but the Anglerfish will deal twice as much damage (100x2, therefore 200) to the animal that ate it |
Strategies[ | ]
- If you are getting chased while on low HP, use a charged boost on them to cripple their mobility to get away, or alternatively, use the ground to move faster. Either tactic works depending on the situation.
- As Coconut Crabs require oxygen, make sure to go to the surface of the water frequently, or else you will die.
- Beached animals are very easy to kill, simply use a combo of a charged slash and a normal slash to kill them.
- As the description of the Coconut Crab states, this animal is specialized in ground combat. You can stun enemies if you used a charged boost while on the ground, in addition to crippling their mobility.
- You can't make animals that aren't buoyant (they sink to the ground slowly) sink.
- You also can't kill smaller crabs, although they don't provide any inherent benefits. You can still attack and kill Japanese Spider Crabs.
- Giant Squids are formidable opponents. Use your ability to stun enemies + sink them with a charged slash against them, or combo them to force them to retreat.
- Anacondas are also formidable opponents, being able to immobilize you, force you off the ground (no using slashes), deal 50 DPS, and drain your oxygen quickly. Use a combo to swiftly kill you, and position yourself near the surface of the water to prevent death from drowning. Staying on islands usually prevents the Anaconda from making you an easy target to other animals.
- Your charged slash also makes the oxygen of animals (that must resurface to restore oxygen) decrease faster.
- Areas with lots of ground to cover and various chunks, like the Kelp Forest or the Coral Reef are prime locations to hunt. Don't hunt in the Open Ocean, especially since Giant Squids can pull you down into the Deeeep and kill you via pressure damage. Areas like the Coral Reef or the Estuary (although a more risky location) usually have a lower section where both deep and surface animals can survive in.
- When you use a claw you there is no cooldown for a regular land hit and thus you can deal two hits quite fast
- Jumping after a hit is a better way of dealing damage than spamming hit as the hit cooldown is just as long as the time it takes to jump and once you land you can hit again meaning you can deal approx. double the DPS if you execute it correctly. This is the basics for combos.
- In PD / TFFA, use the Coconut Crab to weaken enemies and allow your allies to kill them, specifically using the charged slash to stun them and make it harder for them to escape.
